The Vibe Coder Report

# We scanned 5,162 Reddit posts from vibe coders.

As part of the larger Fictivize project, we’ve been working to understand the vibe coding community. One way we’ve done this is via scanning Reddit looking for vibe coders. We conducted 85 automated scans across 26 subreddits over 5 months. Builder communities, AI subs, side-project forums — we tracked what vibe coders post, what gets traction, and what actually frustrates them.

“I built this” posts get 43% fewer upvotes than complaints and debates

Vibe coders love showing off their builds — 22% of posts are “I built this” demos. But Reddit consistently rewards frustration, hot takes, and debate over shipping announcements.

90% of vibe coding posts die under 10 upvotes

The vast majority of vibe coding discourse is people shouting into the void. Only 2.4% of posts ever break 100.

Finding 03

15% of entrepreneur Reddit is now AI-coding conversation

Filtering out dedicated AI subs (r/ClaudeAI, r/ChatGPT, etc.) and looking only at builder communities like r/SaaS, r/SideProject, and r/microsaas: 490 out of 3,270 posts mention AI coding tools. The conversation has infiltrated the mainstream. 15% of posts in non-AI subreddits now reference AI coding tools. Claude leads (169), followed by ChatGPT (100) and AI Agents (89).

The #1 pain isn’t “AI is dumb.” It’s bugs, limits, and lost work.

340 frustrated vibe-coder posts. We broke down what specifically hurts. A surprise: 1 in 6 frustrated posters mention losing their work entirely.

Most viral cost horror story

I accidentally burned ~$6,000 of Claude usage overnight with one command.

This isn’t a toy. 3x more production talk than hobby projects.

The “it’s just prototyping” narrative doesn’t hold. Vibe coders discuss production systems, real users, and revenue at 3x the rate of hobby/learning posts.

What they’re building: APIs & backends (22%), SaaS products (20%), bots & automations (19%), content systems (11%), landing pages (10%), e-commerce (7%), mobile apps (4%), Chrome extensions (4%), games (4%).

The tool leaderboard in builder communities

In non-AI subreddits — where mentioning a tool is a deliberate choice, not the topic of the sub — here’s what vibe coders actually say they use..
